Newport Beach Trigger Point Massage Therapy

What Is a Trigger Point?

You may have heard someone call it a muscle knot. The term “trigger point” is used for a tender area in muscle that may be associated with discomfort locally or in another area.

That doesn’t mean every ache is a trigger point. The aim of this service is focused work on muscle tension, with attention to how the pressure feels to you. It isn’t a diagnosis of what’s causing your pain.

What Would You Like to Focus On?

You might get in touch about tight shoulders, tension around your neck, or a tender area in your back. It helps to explain when you notice the discomfort and whether particular activities seem to bring it on.

Before booking, tell me:

  • Where you feel the tension or tenderness.
  • How long it has been bothering you.
  • Whether it started after an injury.
  • Any relevant advice from your healthcare provider.
  • What you liked or disliked about previous massages.

If the discomfort is new, severe, or unexplained, get medical advice first. Conditions such as migraines, carpal tunnel syndrome, and plantar fasciitis need appropriate assessment. A massage page can’t tell you what’s causing your symptoms.

Focused Work, With Room to Adjust

Tell me if an area feels too sensitive or the pressure is more than you want. You can ask to ease up, move to another area, or stop. You don’t need to grit your teeth through an appointment.

The goal is to work within your comfort level and address the muscle tension you came in to discuss. Some people find massage helpful for short-term discomfort, but results vary. There’s no promise that one session will resolve a recurring problem or keep pain from coming back.

Choosing Between Our Massage Services

If you’re mainly interested in focused work on a tight or tender area, trigger point massage is worth asking about. If your appointment is more about training, activity, or how you feel after exercise, take a look at sports massage.

Pregnant? Start with the prenatal massage page and let me know before booking. Positioning and the approach need to account for pregnancy.

You don’t have to figure out the right service on your own. Call or send a message describing what you’re looking for.

A Few Common Questions

Does trigger point massage have to hurt?

You may find some areas more tender than others, but you should speak up whenever pressure feels uncomfortable. Ask about the approach before booking if you’ve had a painful massage experience in the past.

Can I ask you to focus on one area?

Yes, tell me which area you want to discuss. We can talk about your priorities before the appointment rather than expecting you to know which technique to request.

Is this a replacement for physical therapy or medical care?

No. If you’re being treated for an injury or ongoing condition, ask your healthcare provider whether massage is appropriate alongside that care. The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health’s massage overview explains what research does and doesn’t show.
